Learn something about Yagi Antenna

What is Yagi Antenna?

Yagi antennas, more formally known as Yagi-Uda antennas, are named after their two Japanese inventors. Yagi antennas are commonly used in TV reception, ham radio and as a bridge antenna to connect a site to a wifi access point. The Yagi-Uda antenna or Yagi Antenna is one of the most brilliant antenna designs. It is simple to construct and has a high gain, typically greater than 10 dB.

What is a Yagi antenna used for?

Yagi antennas have different purposes. At an industrial level, they can work for radars to detect movement or for ham radio.

For radio amateurs, they can be used to extend racio communication range.

Nowdays, many amateurs use Yagi antenna to receive the signals from the satellite.

And Yagi are mostly use on Fox Hunting. On Youtube, I have wacthed KB9VBR do a Fox Hunting use his own handmade Yagi Antenna.

What is the advantage of Yagi Antenna?

The Yagi antenna is really easy to use. It has good directivity and higher gain than dipole antennas. It is particularly effective for direction finding and long-distance communication. Their high gain gives yagi antennas a relatively good range. The yagi antenna’s design filters out almost all signal noise coming from the opposite direction. And their construction makes them easy to mount on vertical towers or any other type of structure.

If equipped with an elevation and azimuth rotation control device, you can communicate with radio stations in all directions, including spacecraft, at will. This feeling is not available from a vertical antenna.

Yagi antennas are three times more powerful than omnidirectional antennas because they are frequency-specific, work with one or two carriers, and can be placed to reach the best possible signal wherever you are. Also Yagi Antenna price is much cheaper than omnidirectional antenna.
