How to maintain walkie-talkie
Compared with average people, hams uses the radio more often. So it is necessary to know some maintenance and common troubleshooting methods of the two-way radio.
1. Battery
Maintenance items:
The battery is the source of energy for the whole radio. Normal batteries should be stored in a dry, ventilated place with a suitable temperature. New batteries must be charged overnight before use. This method called "initialization" can ensure that the battery reaches the maximum storage capacity. For being stored used radios, the battery needs to be discharged 50% first. Each time you use the battery of radio that has been out of use for more than 2 months, you must fully discharge and then fully charge it. The battery contacts shrapnel should be kept away from metal conductors.

2. Antenna
Maintenance items:
It is recommended that you pay attention to the correct use method when you use it. Always check whether the connection between the antenna and the antenna base is reliable, whether it is dark and dirty, and whether the appearance of the antenna is damaged. Do not hold the antenna directly in your hand to move the radio.

The communication distance is significantly shorter than before.
3. PTT
Maintenance items:
PTT is the transmitting button, which is the most often used part. Pay attention to check whether the rubber outside the launch button is aging or damaged. or, wheather the button is in poor contact, and the button is invalid. If any abnormality must be repaired and replaced, it is recommended to contact the manufacturer to use the original accessories of the radio.
Related anomalies:
The screen is not displayed the interface of transmitting when the PTT button is pressed, or the PTT button cannot be pressed.
4. Power and channel knob
Maintenance items:
The power snob in the two-way radio is generally integrated with the volume function, it means that power on-off and volume adjustment rely on the same potentiometer. The step potentiometer is used to switch channels and used for manual programming. Hand feel of a good potentiometer is significantly different with worse one, and its steps are clear when turning, and there is no smooth feeling. Do not turn the power and channel knobs continuously and quickly. Prevent drops and severe collisions when using it.
Related anomalies:
The channel knob repeatedly changes or jumps when the channel is changed.
5. Programming interface
Maintenance items:
The programming interface is generally equipped with a dust cover. It should be used up to prevent the interface from being contaminated and oxidized, which will cause the COM port to identify unsuccessfully. If you forget to cover the dust cover just in case, wipe it with a cleaning cloth before connecting the write cable.
Related anomalies:
When programming, the radio is connected but the software has no optional COM port; when updating the firmware, the abnormal port selection may be caused by pollution or oxidation of the writing frequency interface.
